Astral Stone Mound

After a miner dies, their coworkers stack these stones to honor the dead.

They choose each stone with care, using its texture, shape, and color to sum up a life: jagged uneven stones for passion, small smooth ones for caution, and so on. The piled heap becomes the miners' only tribute to the departed.
Naming it "Astral Stone" may be their way of telling the world that those who rest here once shone like starlight beneath the darkness of the mine.
