Letters Left Behind in Sunken Corridor

A long-lost letter. Some of its contents have been covered in dust and are no longer legible.

My old friend Juster,

Greetings!

Ever since the higher-ups launched that large-scale search operation, we've been scattered, separated by great distances.
Time truly has flown by. We used to stand guard together beneath the Pillar of Divinity, exchanging notes at dawn and dusk,
arguing over seemingly trivial doctrinal issues... Now, those days seem gone forever.
To be honest, I kind of miss that regularity. Even though every day was the same, perhaps even a bit mechanical, at least I was certain I was doing no wrong, and my heart was at peace.

But life recently has been truly bizarre. I constantly feel like I'm living half-awake in a dream...
Perhaps it has something to do with what the higher-ups want us to find. Yet, what exactly are they thinking? They send us out to search, but won't tell us what we are actually looking for.
They just keep telling us, "Go search and discover—the rewards will come to you..." Honestly, the biggest reward I've gotten has been strange looks from the people around me.

At first, people were happy to interact with us. They used to greet people like us with smiles, but it's different now.
They hide from us, avoid our gaze—even asking for directions feels like we're treading on some taboo.
It's as if the moment people like us get close, we'll immediately dig up the secrets hidden at the very bottom of their wardrobes.
It makes me start to question: what is the meaning of wearing this uniform every day?

Juster, my old friend, you know me well. I, Cedric, am a busybody and mischievous by nature. I didn't join this line of work to cultivate my character, but because I wanted to help people.
But this time... I truly feel a sense of powerlessness. It's just like that kid Boyce said: "The foundation beneath our feet is trembling."

I've done a lot of investigating in private, wanting to find out what exactly the higher-ups are looking for—even just the reason behind their sudden, extreme agitation.
They are tight-lipped, of course, but with a great deal of effort, I finally managed to catch a glimpse of the truth.
My friend, the implications behind this matter are vast—far too vast. Alone, I can't even begin to grasp the full picture...
I can only tell you three things for now: don't dig too deep, don't report anything, and don't trust anyone.

Finally, and most importantly, please come catch up at the Gloomy Depths on the ■■th of next month. I've invited Edreon, Elowen, and a few other old friends to join us.
We can talk late into the night and piece our information together into the truth.
I look forward to your reply, and to seeing you.
(Don't let Seon see this letter, and don't mention it to any of the guards.)

Cedric
