The Bahamar Obelisk

"This series presents an in-depth exploration of the Needle Rocks of the Bahamar Highlands, aiming to reveal the stories and insights behind the spectacle by analyzing mainstream hypotheses such as 'Xeno Engram contamination' and 'Pillar of Divinity influence.' Written by Julian Field. "

The Bahamar Obelisk Prologue When people think of the Bahamar Highlands, the first impression is always solemn, austere, and imposing. This comes not only from the drastic elevation changes and harsh highland climate, but also from the Pillar of Divinity hanging high in the sky—like a vigilant gaze watching over this land. Together, these elements form the grand background of the highlands.

Today, we'll be discussing the marvel born from this majestic landscape: the Needle Rocks. Every traveler who has set foot on the Bahamar Highlands must have been impressed by them. Their shapes are strange and abrupt—nothing like natural formations, more like the barbs on some vicious beast. Most striking of all is how uniform they are in appearance, as if some historic event transformed the highlands into fertile ground for their growth.

Yet the origins of these rocks remain widely debated, with no definitive conclusion even today. Captivated by the Needle Rocks, the author spent several years on the Bahamar Highlands collecting theories about their formation. Below are some of the leading explanations: --- The Bahamar Obelisk I I. Theory of Xeon Engram Contamination

It is said that the highlands were once the place where the witch Hruga fell. After her defeat, the Engram she released scattered across the land, severely disrupting the local ecosystem. Illusory Bloom, Crimson Marrow Core... Many originally harmless natural materials mutated under the influence of this Engram. The Needle Rocks may well be one such mutation.

If you think about it, these rocks really do seem to have sprouted in unnervingly uniform patterns, almost like an extreme form of biological rejection. Their sharp spines look as though they're sounding a warning of some kind.

And this theory is not entirely unfounded. Although the highlands border the Asteria Plains, many minerals on the plains have indeed undergone mutation. These mutations go far beyond altered appearances—they involve complete structural reorganization: dense internal matter becoming porous and loose; once-smooth surfaces turning rough and filled with cavities... All these precedents suggest that Needle Rocks, too, may have been affected. Thus, the theory that ordinary ridge stones were "honed" into Needle Rocks feels perfectly plausible. --- The Bahamar Obelisk II II. The Theory of the Pillar of Divinity's Influence

However, some Pilgrims hold a different view. They argue that Witch Hruga has been sealed for centuries, her power long since faded, and that—with the Creed's guidance—the land is gradually recovering. The Illusory Bloom has been contained, and the mining of Crimson Marrow was banned long ago... After hundreds of years, the sharp edges of the Needle Rocks should have been worn smooth by the highlands' bitter cold winds.
Yet these rocks remain pristine. Scholars who have studied their internal structure found clear growth layers within, indicating that the Needle Rocks are continuing to grow, at an extremely slow rate. This suggests that their formation is not being sustained by the witch's lingering power, but by a stable and continuous energy source.
It is an energy that predates the witch, so the most evident source is the highlands' defining landmark—the Pillar of Divinity.
The Pillar of Divinity is the largest, most magnificent, and best-preserved creation of the Bapharian Divines on the Continent of Magna. Even after the deities departed, it remains suspended in midair, steadfast against the howling winds. Scholars believe that the pillar continues to supply energy in some form—and that this energy is the true force behind the formation of the Needle Rocks.
Decisive support for this hypothesis comes from Pilgrims' accounts: most Needle Rocks appear to grow in the direction of the Pillar of Divinity. --- The Bahamar Obelisk III III. The Discovery of Unknown Scars

However, the second hypothesis also contains aspects that are difficult to explain. The Needle Rocks' sharp, abrupt forms do not resemble an act of reverence or devotion; rather, they appear more like a warning. Scholars claim that the Needle Rocks grow in the direction of the Pillar of Divinity—could this be suggesting that the Divine clan's legacy caused nature itself to evolve into such jagged, alien structures?

More critically, these Needle Rocks are not, as scholars assert, growing toward the Pillar of Divinity like some phototropic plants. Based on my own investigations, only a small number of Needle Rocks point toward the Pillar of Divinity, while the majority exhibit distribution and orientation patterns that resemble random evolution.

In addition, I have discovered numerous abandoned Bapharian Ruins that had suffered catastrophic destruction. The wounds carved into these ruins remain shocking even to this day. This seems to hint at a brutal, long-buried history of the Bahamar Highlands. Since the formation of the Needle Rocks is thought to be connected to external stimuli, then these hidden events must also be taken into consideration. --- The Bahamar Obelisk IV IV. Conclusion: Boundary Marker of the Earth
By examining the two prevailing hypotheses, we can arrive at a partial consensus: The Needle Rock formations are characteristically sharp and jutting, indicating they are the result of external stimuli. By further identifying points of agreement and isolating disagreements, we can begin to investigate their true cause: The main point of divergence between these two theories is the origin of the energy involved. Yet, regardless of whether we consider the Pillar of Divinity or the witch Hruga, both are undeniably of unnatural creation.

Thus, we are forced to confront a conclusion as pointed as the Needle Rock formations themselves—that they are, perhaps, a form of immunological rejection by the highland terrain.

This immunological rejection is likely not from any single event, but from a great many such events that have inflicted excessive devastation upon the Bahamar Highlands in ages past: Xeno Engram, war, the Divine Ruins, and even more calamities lost to our knowledge. These calamities have surpassed nature's ability to heal, overwhelming the world's capacity to endure, and ultimately causing the land of the highlands to develop this kind of rejection mechanism.

Perhaps the warning carried by the Needle Rock is the very same message the scar-like ruins across the highlands are trying to convey. What is past is gone, and there is little to be gained by dwelling on it. We can only hope that in the years to come, each time we are struck with awe by their form, we will use them as a boundary marker—a reason to reflect upon and remember the past.
