The Lying Ruler

A group of hurried artisans appeared in the ruins of the Sunken Corridor in the Bahamar Highlands. Oddly enough, they weren't researching a high-level Legacy or brand-new technology, but rather taking basic measurements.
Initially, the surveying artisans only wanted to measure the width of the remaining Bapharian Divine ruins' walls, but they discovered that their rulers showed random deviations with every reading. At first, they attributed them to their eyes playing tricks on them or their hands shaking, but as the records piled up, they were surprised to find that not only lengths, but angles, and even the most precise instrumental measurements all showed errors as well.
Behind these silent discrepancies, the artisans sensed the influence of a massive, unknown factor: when they used numbers to measure the world, the world was observing them in the exact same way... like an unblinking eye staring silently from the abyss.
Realizing something was wrong, the artisans gathered an elite team, stationing themselves in the Sunken Corridor, and swearing not to return to the Artisan Guild until they had solved the mystery.
But would things really go as they wished?
